Xquartz For Maceverinsight

Released: 2008-04-14

Xquartz setup

XQuartz is the X11 DDX that interfaces with Mac OS X. It was formerly shipped by Apple in OS X as X11.app and later transitioned to an Open Source project. XQuartz is an open-source version of the X.Org X server, a component of the X Window System (X11, or shortened to simply X, and sometimes informally X-Windows) that runs on macOS. It formally replaced Apple's internal X11 app.

Changes in 2.2.0.1

  • All changes in 2.2.0 plus:
    • Updated /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/privileged_startx.d/10-tmpdirs to address a potential security risk (privilege escalation):
      • A user could create a symbolic link from /tmp/.X11-unix to /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/privileged_startx.d and execute privileged_startx to give himself write permission to /usr/X11/lib/X11/xinit/privileged_startx.d
